Square Footage: 1.1 Million
Type of System: Central Plant
Industry: Industrial Campus
Customer Challenge
Constructed in 1960, Summit Technology Campus with 1.1 million total square feet, is comprised of two buildings with major tenants such as St. Luke’s Hospital, Cerner, Fabtech, Immigration Nationalization Services (INS)/ Homeland Security, AT&T and Central Missouri State University. Their challenge was to upgrade the chiller plant and mechanical system to provide reliability, energy savings, climate control and reduced maintenance costs. This 6000 ton system upgrade had to be completed with no disruption to the tenants.
DMI Solution
Design Mechanical, Inc.’s design/build team provided the solution. The project included a new chilled water system totaling 6000 tons, retrofit of 36 existing air handling units and the installation of a new building automation system – all while the buildings remained in operation.
Highlights
Installation of 12 - 500 ton air-cooled chillers; Conversion of a gas-fired steam plant to an all electric system; A central piping loop that provided redundant operation; Interface of 3 – control systems into 1 – operating system.
